Musandam
Musandam
Musandam is the name of the tip of the Arabian peninsula to the North of the United Arab Emirates. It is actually a governorate of Oman with great strategic importance due to its proximity to the Strait of Hormuz. There are border crossings from the UAE on the East in Ras al Khaimah and on the West in Dibba. Musandam peninsula is covered by the Hajar mountains and a large part of it is protected by the military. Hiking there is spectacular with the highest peak, Jebel Harim, at 2087m.
The rugged coastline with many rocky islands resembles Norwegian fjords and even if you're not a diver, taking a Dhow cruise through this spectacular area is worthwhile. On the West, Dhows leave from Khasab for a fun day or diving, snorkeling or swimming with dolphins! Liveaboards leave from Dibba port and are offered for weekends or even longer trips.
