General description

Inhambane is located in the Southern part of Mozambique at the mouth of the Matumba river giving rise to an estuary rich in marine life. Just South of Inhambane are the holiday destinations of Tofo, Barra, and Guinjata Bay with amazing dive sites, quiet white beaches and beautiful scenery. The dunes are covered in palm trees and life is very peaceful and slow-paced. People are friendly and speak a mix of their own language with Portuguese and some English.
Whalewatching can be done from August to October and it is spectacular! After that the season of whale sharks begins, which is also amazing. Last year even a mola-mola was spotted! Generally you will see large schools of fish, many species of moray eels, and a huge variety of macro life on the reefs. Occasionally you may encounter manta rays, sharks, and turtles.
Inhambane airport can be reached by plane from Maputo or Vilanculos, bus services to and from South Africa are available almost daily.
