Weda is located on the island of Halmahera in the province of North Maluku, Indonesia. Getting there is actually quite an adventure! The nearest airport is Ternate and can be reached from several other Indonesian airports, we flew from Manado. Ternate is on a small island West of the the main island of Halmahera. You will need to get a ride to the port where ferries leave to take you across to the main island. This takes about an hour and can be quite bumpy. The view of volcano Tidore on the island you pass is stunning though! Once you've arrived at Sofifi port on the other side, you will be picked up by car and taken to Weda resort. The 3-hour drive (120km) is spectacular as you pass along the coast with views of several volcanoes on small islands, Tidore being one of them. Then you turn East and drive through mountains with humid and foggy  rainforest, which is a bit creepy but also very cool. As you head down the mountains you can see the coast below and Weda resort is just a bit up the coast from there. Don't worry, the resort will arrange all transport for you and the whole trip from Manado can be done in one day!

** There are mosquitoes (low malaria risk) and the local mosquito repellant works well! **

When to visit

The weather in Weda doesn't vary much throughout the year. Temperatures are generally 25-30 degrees C during the day and at night, it us usually rather humid. Due to strong winds and waves, diving is recommended only from mid-September until the end of May and Weda resort only offers it during these times. The wetter season is from November to June and the drier season from July until October.
However, birdwatching in the rainforest is possible all year long.
