General description

Komodo is home to some of the most spectacular dive sites in the world with an incredible abundance and diversity of marine life, ranging from manta rays and turtles to small pygmy sea horses and ladybugs. Komodo lies within the Coral Triangle, which is considered the epicenter for the biodiversity of corals, fish and other marine organisms.
Komodo National Park is located about 1.5 flight hours East of Bali. From Labuan Bajo port, divers can embark on their liveaboards which will take them diving around Komodo for trips of various length. Highly recommended are liveaboards which include the Southern part of the park. Dive centers also offer day-diving to the more local sites.
Komodo is mostly known for its Komodo Dragons, the largest species of monitor lizard with a venomous bite. The Komodo National Park was founded in 1980 and they are protected under Indonesian law. The park includes 3 larger islands (Komodo, Rinca, Padar) and 26 smaller ones.
