Marine life courses

There is so much to learn about and discover while diving and taking photos!

From Wikipedia: "Marine life, or sea life or ocean life, refers to the plants, animals and other organisms that live in the salt water of the sea or ocean, or the brackish water of coastal estuaries."

"Altogether there are 230,000 documented marine species, including over 16,000 species of fish, and it has been estimated that nearly two million marine species are yet to be documented. Marine species range in size from the microscopic, including plankton and phytoplankton which can be as small as 0.02 micrometers, to huge cetaceans (whales, dolphins and porpoises) which in the case of the blue whale reach up to 33 meters (109 feet) in length, being the largest known animal."

Selecting the right course

The underwater world is wonderful and fascinating and most people do not have a chance to experience it themselves. As divers we are priviledged to see many marine creatures up close or from a distance and we get to float weightlessly through this incredible part of our planet. The more we know about a certain marine creature and its behavior, the more we are able to notice it and discover more about its ecosystem when diving. Are you interested in learning about the "big stuff" like sharks, manta rays, whales, turtles? Or do you prefer searching for the smaller creatures of the ocean such as shrimps, crabs, nudibranchs? Maybe the many types of coral and coral reefs are what you enjoy most when diving?

Available Marine life courses

Whichever form of marine life you would like to learn more about, the PADI fish identification course can be tailored to your interest. You will keep track of creatures/corals that interest you by drawing them on a slate and making notes. After the dive we will provide you with resources to look up the species and any information you would like to have about them. You will be amazed at how much more easily you will spot these species on your next dive and even notice behaviors you may previously have missed!
The PADI underwater naturalist course will help you better understand the local ecosystem. You will learn about symbioses, underwater ecology, and aquatic plant and animal habitats and the differences between terrestrial and aquatic worlds. Considering the fact that oceans provide about 99 percent of the living space on the planet, there is a lot to learn! You will gain awareness of how to responsibly and safely interact with aquatic life, uncover the myths and misperceptions about potentially dangerous aquatic life, and also learn about indications of impact of man on the local aquatic environment.
