Post-processing courses

Post-processing is an integral part of photography. People used to have to get photos developed and it would take a while to get the finished photos printed. Now we have instant results but that doesn't mean there's nothing to be done after a shoot.

Post-processing can be as quick or as elaborate as you would like. You can quickly sort through the photos, delete the ones you don't want and post the rest on social media. Often though, especially when shooting in RAW format, you want to "develop" the photos; maybe fix the blue or green color cast, adjust the lighting a bit or just crop the photo to put more emphasis on the subject. When you take a lot of photos you might want to organize them so you can find them back at a later stage. Or maybe you're more of an artist and want to make creative edits to create something unique. Whatever the case, post-processing is an area you want to learn more about when you want to progress you photography.

Selecting the right course

If you would want to invest time and effort in one post-processing course, we advise the Adobe Lightroom - Basics course. The Adobe Lightroom software is versatile and covers a complete workflow, from downloading from the camera, organizing photos, editing and exporting to print or post on social media. On a more advanced level Lightroom can also be used for creative edits and has the advantage that the whole workflow is done in one piece of software.

When creative editing is your main focus then you might want to look into the Adobe Photoshop - Basics course. The Photoshop software does not have the same features as Lightroom when it comes to organization of photos but it really shines when it comes to creative editing. While Lightroom can also be used for creative edits, Photoshop has a wide range of features to give almost unlimited control of your images.

When deciding which post-processing course to do, try to determine what exactly you are trying to accomplish. Do you want to organize your photos, develop RAW photos and do some basic editing on your photos or are you really into creative editing? Select your course based on this.

Adobe Creative Cloud and other software

We teach our post-processing courses based on the Adobe Creative Suite software. There is a lot of excellent software available for post-processing but it would be impossible to keep up with and teach all these different packages. We focus on Adobe Creative Cloud because this is one of the most widely used collections of creative software and offers a wide range of features and a consistent way of working.

For photography we use the Lightroom and Photoshop software but Adobe Creative Cloud also contains software for graphic design, video editing and web development. Click the link below to learn more about Adobe Creative Cloud.
